The high alumina of the Guyanese bauxite make it an attractive solution for the production of welding rods, and when sintered for use as an abrasive grain (in standard or grit sizes). Of specific mention is the use as a High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) abrasive for highway applications for skid resistance in road and bridge sections.
