Refractories & Steelmaking

Guyanese bauxite, with the potential for sintered alumina levels to over 93% coupled to low impurity levels for silica, iron and alkalis represents an ideal choice for the manufacturers of refractory bricks and castables. The high level of corundum in the sintered bauxite presents an excellent refractory material for hot strength refractoriness and resistance to chemical attack or abrasion. Specifically in refractory castables and for steelmaking slag conditioning, the low alkali levels also help enhance performance.

With alumina levels above 93%, sintered Guyanese bauxite can also be used as an alternative in some applications for higher grade alumina products, such as brown fused alumina.
