High-Purity Industrial Minerals for Diverse Applications

First Bauxite operates a world-class mining facility in Guyana, producing high-purity bauxite with uniquely low levels of silica and other impurities. When sintered, our bauxite can achieve alumina levels exceeding 93%, making it ideal for demanding industrial applications.

In addition to bauxite, our operation provides high-purity quartz sand, clays, and kaolin. Combined with our flexible processing capabilities, these minerals enable us to serve a diverse range of industries with precision-tailored solutions.

Markets & Applications

We deliver specialized mineral solutions for industries requiring high-performance raw materials:

Refractories & Steelmaking

High-Purity Alumina Products

First Bauxite’s Guyanese bauxite, with sintered alumina levels exceeding 93% and minimal impurities in silica, iron, and alkalis, is an ideal choice for refractory brick and castable manufacturers. The high corundum content enhances hot strength, refractoriness, and resistance to chemical attack and abrasion. In steelmaking, its low alkali levels improve slag conditioning performance. Sintered Guyanese bauxite can also serve as an alternative to higher-grade alumina products such as brown fused alumina.

Flame Retardants

Natural Fire Resistance

Gibbsitic Guyanese bauxite contains high levels of molecular water, making it a valuable additive in fire-retardant applications such as carpet backing, cable sheathing, and polymers. It provides fire resistance comparable to aluminum tri-hydrate (ATH) while offering a 90% lower carbon footprint**.

Construction

Cement Enhancement & Eco-Friendly Solutions

Our bauxite, clays, and kaolin are essential raw materials for the construction industry, offering versatility in both natural and processed forms. Our bauxite enhances the strength and durability of cement, while our clays serve as a controlled alumina source and effective cement extenders for white cements. Leveraging FBX’s advanced processing capabilities and strategic partnerships, we are actively exploring the production of high-performance metakaolin—an essential component in supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) and sustainable innovations such as geopolymers and LC3 cements.

Abrasives & Welding

High-Friction Surfaces & Welding Rods

With its high alumina content, sintered Guyanese bauxite is an excellent raw material for abrasives, high-friction surface treatments (HFST) for highways, and welding rod production.

Glass Manufacturing

High-Purity Quartz Sand for Solar Glass

Our high-purity quartz sand, with an iron content below 60 ppm, is ideal for solar panel glass production. Its low iron levels enhance optical clarity and light transmission, maximizing the efficiency and performance of solar panels.

Water Treatment

Purification & Flocculants

Our bauxite is used in water treatment primarily as a raw material for producing aluminum-based coagulants, such as aluminum sulfate (alum) and polyaluminum chloride (PAC). These coagulants help remove impurities, suspended solids, and organic matter from water by facilitating the aggregation of particles, making them easier to filter out. Due to its low silica and iron impurities, Guyanese bauxite is well-suited for producing high-purity aluminum sulfate, which is widely used in drinking water purification, wastewater treatment, and industrial water processing.

Oilfield Drilling (Ceramic Proppants)

Multi-Strength & Lightweight Proppants

Our bauxite is ideal for ceramic proppants in oil and gas drilling due to its high alumina content, low impurities, and excellent sintering properties. It produces strong, crush-resistant proppants that withstand extreme pressures, while its high sphericity enhances flow efficiency. Low silica and iron levels improve chemical stability, and its customizable density makes it suitable for various reservoir conditions, outperforming traditional sand-based proppants.
